Class Description

    Curious about longarm quilting? Come try it out!

    Join us for a wonderful weekend of quilting with Handi Quilter National Educator Kristina Whitney, where you can test it out, learn the basics, and see just how fun (and doable) longarm quilting really is!

    The Essentials package includes Day 1 & Day 2 and is designed for quilters who are interested in owning a longarm machine.

    Current longarm owners are invited to join us for Day 3, which features more advanced education focused on expanding your quilting skills, techniques, and machine knowledge.

    Day 1 - Confident Stitches: Longarm Basics

    This class removes the mystery of longarm quilting by explaining machine and frame elements and features, how to load a quilt, and vital facts about thread, needles, and tension. Handi Quilter longarm machine and frame systems come in various sizes for every budget and are user-friendly because they are designed by a quilter, for quilters – just like you!

    Day 2 Morning Session - Free Motion Quilting & Beyond

    It’s easier than you think! Create flowing designs by connecting simple design elements with continuous lines, traveling across the quilt or filling a specific area. Learn how drawing and muscle memory contribute to beautiful free-motion quilting, and how you can create stunning designs.

    Day 2 Afternoon Session - Quilting with Rulers:

    If you love precision and consistency in your quilting rulers, you will love using design rulers and templates! These handy tools assist in placing designs accurately and stitching them out precisely. Learn to handle rulers and templates safely with the ruler base and Sure Foot, and how to achieve accuracy with the markings.

Meet Your Instructor

    Kristina Whitney

    Kristina has been quilting since the 1990s and discovered longarm quilting in 2014. She now quilts on Handi Quilter machines, teaches worldwide, and enjoys rulers, Pro-Stitcher, and free-motion quilting. Her work has been featured in magazines, and she loves encouraging students to try new techniques while she works to finish 50 of her grandmother’s quilt tops.

    Jean Impey

    Jean Impey is an inspiring quilter, teacher, and speaker who brings creativity, energy, and a true love of quilting to every class she teaches. With years of experience teaching and presenting to quilt guilds across the United States, Jean is known for making quilting approachable, exciting, and fun.

    Her classes are designed to encourage creativity, build confidence, and help students enjoy the process of learning new techniques while creating something beautiful.

With plenty of room to spread out, our classroom space gives guests a comfortable place to learn, create, and enjoy hands-on projects. With plenty of room for machines, supplies, cutting, pressing, and project work, our classroom space is designed to make your time with us easier and more enjoyable.

While you are here, you can also explore our fabric selection, shop for sewing and quilting supplies, or bring your machine in for service from our on-site, factory-trained technicians.
